    Description

Design challenges abounded when renovating this 100+ year-old structurally deficient house. In this home, which happened to contain the oldest elevator in Connecticut, the client asked Karp Associates to include a state of the art exercise lap pool, an English conservatory and a new kitchen. Blending the client’s wishes with several distinctive architectural styles from the 1890’s, on a property that was deficient in setbacks increased this challenge.

Our mission was accomplished through a team effort that began at concept and lasted to completion among builder, architect, attorney, homeowner and a conservatory fabricator located 3500 miles away in London. Our team worked hard to combine the new elements of an endless lap pool, modern kitchen, new mudroom, bathrooms and updated electric and HVAC, while being sensitive to the home’s extensive history. Reclaimed materials were utilized throughout the house, including materials sourced all along the East coast.
