The renovation began as part of a larger effort to update the multiple buildings on the campus. The new museum space was formerly antiquated staff offices and a dusty library of historical books. The inefficient historical library did not attract the level of visitors desired because the space was dark, dated and completely uninviting. In addition, there was no designated space to exhibit the organization’s inventory of artifacts packed away in the archives out of sight and out of mind. The multitude of items in storage including a substantial historical dress and shoe collection were not being exhibited in any fashion. Therefore, as part of the “Reimagining Master Plan” a concept was developed to create new, brighter and more inviting space for museum exhibits. The offices were relocated to other parts of the building, the books were moved to a newly renovated finished space on the lower level, and a modern exhibit space was created. The renovation included demolition of all finishes and interior walls to open the space for a contemporary clean aesthetic. New walls, floors, new dropped ceiling grid and tiles and most importantly, modern lighting were installed. The result is a bright, open, welcoming museum with interactive exhibits, video storylines, and unique displays. This state-of-the-art technology allows the viewer to delve into fascinating details of the past and research various aspects of the town’s history.

The exhibition took more than two years to put together and is the core of the Museum’s “Campus Reimagined Project”. It is a must-visit for any history buff or anyone who wants to learn about the history of the town they call home.
